作文范文:SCHOOLBAGS: TOO HEAVY FOR CHILDREN TO BEAR
These days we often hear our children groaning under their heavy load of study. This is not surprising when we see their schoolbags bulging with all sorts of textbooks and workbooks. They have so many courses to take and are given, indeed, far more assignments than they can put up with. Most of them have to sit up late till the small hours, struggling with their homework. In spite of the clamor of the public for an end to this situation, the load the pupils are bearing has not been removed, nor even relieved. the reasons for this are not difficult to figure out. First, a great part of the pressure comes from the parents, who have gone all lengths to help them improve academic performance and urge them for early intellectual achievements: calling in private tutors, sending them to evening schools or special training classes. Pupils at large seem to be driven by one message: Don't fail. It has, in fact, been echoing in their heads ever since they started school. They have been urged to score high, to test well, finish first. On the other hand, teachers should be held responsible, too. To them, scores are not only the mark of success or failure for a particular student but also a measure of professional performance of their own. Many of them have failed to exert their effort to improve teaching methods, enhancing their efficiency training. Instead, they just give more assignments, put more books into the pupils back sacks and stuff their heads with as many facts as possible. In my opinion, to lighten the pupils schoolbags is the first step towards relieving them of their heavy burden. It appears to be comparatively easy to take away a few books - and what is more important is to effect some radical changes in our existing educational system. We can do more than talk, for after all, parents and teachers do not intend the heavy, bulging back sacks to crush the children, do they?
